A super busy Sunday for Team Trek-Pirelli. Vlad Dascalu and Gioele De Cosmo were on the start line for round 1 of the Elite UCI World Cup in Albstadt, Germany, meanwhile in Italy Fabian Rabensteiner, Samuele Porro, Daniel Geismayr and Michele Casagrande raced in Costa Degli Etruschi Epic Marathon.
Vlad had a really good race finishing in 18th place, confirming that he is one of the strongest young riders in the world.
“I am quite satisfied with my performance, After the start my legs were not responding as I wished for and I suffered a lot from the heat. I started to drink a lot and I wet my back with water, I was able to find my rhythm and I started to climb up positions. I felt I could have done better, but the opening laps let me down. Lucky next Sunday is Nove Mesto, which is one of my favorite circuits and we can try again“.
Unfortunately, it was a bad day for Gioele De Cosmo, DNF after struggling with intestinal problems during the race. He’ll look to bounce back next weekend also.
In Marina di Bibbona, Italy, the XCM Trek Pirelli Team was there to chase the victory and they got very close!! Fabian Rabensteiner battled his way to 4th position.
“I’m happy, but luck was not on my side. Before the second Tech Point I hit a stone which broke my pedal and I was unable to clip in or pedal, I had to stop and replace it. I tried to catch up and I got back to the second chasing group. I didn’t think I’d be able to win the sprint for fourth place, but I went for it and started long way out and was able to hold it. I feel I’m in great shape and I’m excited for the Andalucia Bike Race“.
Both Samuele Porro and Daniel Geismayr put in really strong rides finishing 11th and 13threspectfully.
