A FIRST EVER WORLD CUP ELITE PODIUM FOR TEAM TREK PIRELLI

It was a very successful weekend in the beautiful Tirol region of Leogang, Austria for the third round of the UCI World Cup.

Unfortunately the week started in a stressful way with Simone Avondetto and Gioele De Cosmo involved in a car accident on their way to the event that forced Giole to make the hard decision not to race, but luckily no serious injuries.

Thankfully we finished the weekend on a very positive note, with an amazing 5th place for Vlad Dascalu in the elite category, which is the first ever World Cup Elite podium for Team Trek Pirelli.

Vlad managed a great race, showing all his strength, setting him in the TOP 5 strongest MTB riders in the world.

I’m super happy with the result. It was not the best start of my life, I found myself on the second group, but then I felt very strong and I overtook a lot of riders. When I reached Griot, I stayed on his wheel and together we kept chasing Litscher. The last lap was crazy, we gave it 110% and I tried to sprint for the 4th place, but Litscher was too strong. I couldn’t be more happy with this great result“. – Vlad

Great performance also from Simone Avondetto finishing in 4th place in the very competitive U23 category. Simone battled during the entire race with Roth, the Europen Champion, and tried to pass on the last corner to avoid the sprint finish knowing Roth would be very difficult to beat there. A risky move where Simone almost lost the front, hitting the back wheel of his opponent and made him loose his momentum and the possible 3rd place.
A great result now placing Avondetto in 4th on the World Cup General Classification. Really good race also for Janis Baumann, who closed in 20th position and is showing potential for much more.
